Abstract
The concept of ‘One Health’ (OH) refers to a unified approach for balancing and optimising the health of people, animals, and the environment. We show that this approach has become particularly salient following the Covid-19 pandemic, especially regarding surveillance and early detection. Drawing on evidence from Sweden, we assess the benefits and limitations of applying OH principles to future pandemic prevention strategies and provide suggestions for a further development of OH, with a less anthropocentric bias.
