Abstract
This study identifies which discourses that dominated Swedish news media regarding the pandemic and vaccine. Data from the Media Archive was analyzed based on the use of language in order to shape discourses and citizens. News media uses rhetorical resources that arouse emotions; fear, solidarity and responsibility. The identified discourses; The war against the invisible enemy of the world, In the name of solidarity, In the wake of reason and Towards a new world? also contains metaphors as rhetorical resources. Citizens who wants to think and act on their own, without being guided by fear and prevailing discourses, are portrayed as uneducated and egotistical. These unwanted voices are silenced and relegated to alternative channels and platforms with serious consequences for freedom of opinion and democratic conversation in society.
