Abstract
This quantitative pre-post evaluation examines the level of knowledge gained by participants in the "Effective Planning of Interventions for Substance Abuse" (EPI) university course. The majority of participants were social workers working in municipal social services who evaluated and conducted follow-up interviews with clients with high-risk or severe substance use, using the Addiction Severity Index. They had access to a web-based support system called NetKlient. The study found significant increases in knowledge across most modules, particularly in core knowledge related to intervention and care continuity (Cohen's d = -2.21), and the use of motivational interviewing in post-assessment conversations (Cohen's d = -0.89). Knowledge of older individuals with high-risk alcohol use also increased (Cohen's d = -0.61), as did knowledge of the value of ASI follow-up interviews for both social workers (Cohen's d = -0.56) and clients (Cohen's d = -0.52).This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported License.
