Abstract
Eating disorders affect the individual both physically and mentally and can also develop into a life-threatening condition. As a therapist, you need time, courage and patience when meeting people suffering from eating disorders. Approaching the individual from a holistic perspective means there are good opportunities for valuable meetings. The nutritive presence of music can help young people in their search for social belonging and identity. Studies have shown that music therapy can contribute to improved self-esteem and emotion regulation and reduce anxiety and depression symptoms as well as social exclusion. The clinical perspective of this article describes the work at a specialized outpatient clinic for eating disorder patients at a Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic.
